“Ìpolongo tó nlọ lọ́wọ́ ni orilẹ́ èdè Nigeria ni pe“Àyípadà bẹ̀rẹ̀ pẹ̀lú mi”

The current slogan in Nigeria is “Change begins with me”

What was built for twenty or more years can be easily destroyed in seconds, on the other hand, to re-build could take many years.  It is important for every citizen to be determined to ‘change’ attitude in order to overcome the current hardship.

Change ought to begin with government/public servants, market people, school heads, students, healthcare sector, young and old.  Bribery and corruption that has taken over Nigeria over the years has destroyed many things.  Some of these bad practices include diversion of government properties and looting of government treasury for self-aggrandisement.  Obtaining bribe before issuing contracts has led to making contracts for the provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, water and power supply in Nigeria the most expensive in the world.  It also contributed to the contractor’s lacklustre job performance and sometimes non-performance.  Market sellers are often very rude to customers, greed and acquisition and display of ill-gotten wealth has led to the increase in corruption and outright stealing among the politicians, religious leaders, government workers, market sellers that hoard their goods to cause inflation, school teachers, students that have no respect for their teachers etc.

For ‘change’ to deliver positive outcome in the country, everyone must examine his/her ways and be determined to change their ways from receiving bribes, shun corruption, irresponsibility in the family, lack of respect for elders, looting the treasury, siphoning money overseas, abandoning local food for foreign taste, excessive celebrations, living beyond ones means and lack of contentment.

The current slogan in Nigeria is ‘change begins with me’.  According to a Yoruba adage that said, ‘a tree does not make a forest’, meaning, it is not only the political leaders and politicians that can redress several years of corruption, but all hands must be on deck to kick out corruption.
